		Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is the tallest of the skyscrapers to the immediate west of Shinjuku station and within there are 2 observation galleries. One is in the southern tower and the other is in the northern tower of the building. Both are on 45th floor. You can enjoy panoramic views of Tokyo and can see sights such as Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Dome. The observation gallery in the southern tower is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm. (11pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays) It is closed on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays. The observation gallery in the northern tower is open from 9.30am to 11pm. It is closed on the 2nd and 4tn Mondays.

		Tokyo Opera City

Tokyo Opera City is a musical-cum-art complex comprising an opera theater, a concert hall and an art gallery. The Tokyo Opera City tower is a 54 floored facility and plays host to restaurants and shopping areas. The well known and hugely popular Park Hyatt Tokyo is nearby and the nearest station is Hatsudai station on the Keio-shinsen.

		Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is an urban oasis with an area of 58.3 ha, which has both a Western garden and a Japanese garden. The garden is a popular place for viewing Japanese plum and cherry blossoms in spring, and colorful leaves in autumn. The displays of Chrysanthemums also attract many visitors in November. The garden is a 10-minitue walk from JR Shinjuku station, or a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Gyoen-Mae station of the Tokyo Metro. Visitors are prohibited from bringing alcohol and using play equipment.

		Shinjuku Suehirotei (Suehiro Vaudeville Theater)

This wooden theater is an outstanding example of how to retain the atmosphere of the long since finished Edo-era. Inside, you can enjoy rakugo (comic storytelling), manzai (a comic dialogue - usually put on by two people), kodan (storytelling), and magical shows. It is open from 12pm to 4.30pm in the afternoon and from 5pm to 9pm in the evening and is just a 1 minute walk from the Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Sanchome station.

		Hanazono Shrine

This shrine is most closely associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu. At the Torino-Ichi festival held every November the shrine bustles with people, and bamboo rakes which are symbols of luck, are to be found everywhere. The shrine is 5 minutes from the Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Sanchome station.

		Shinjuku Golden-gai (Golden Street)

"Shinjuku Golden-gai" has a very unique atmosphere. With Golden Street having started life as a black market area from the time immediately following World War Two, the remnants of 60-year-old barracks can still be found among the bars on the street. Nostalgia is in the very air here and perhaps because of this was once the hang out of many Japanese intellectuals of years long since forgotten.

		Shinjuku Kabuki-cho

Shinjuku's Kabuki-cho is the main entertainment area in Shinjuku. There are theaters, cinemas, restaurants, and bars. Kabuki-cho is an area that never seems to sleep and visitors are often overwhelmed by the streams of screaming neon and the never-ending hordes of people.

		Department Stores

Many major department stores are gathered together in the Shinjuku area. The Isetan Department Store is located at the Shinjuku Sanchome station and the well-established Mitsukoshi Department Store is in the same area. At the main station's west exit, shoppers can find the Odakyu Department Store and the Keio Department Store that is conveniently connected directly with Shinjuku station. The Takashimaya Department Store is at the station's south exit. In addition, there are many other shopping buildings that carry boutiques and outlets galore such as Shinjuku Lumine, My City, and Flags. Enjoy your shopping in Shinjuku!

		TAKASHIMAYA TIMES SQUARE

TAKASHIMAYA TIMES SQUARE stands at the south exit of Shinjuku station and is a huge shopping center. This center features a department store, TOKYU HANDS (an arts and crafts shop), restaurants, UNIQLO, Yuzawaya and a large branch of Kinokunia bookstore.
